SEÑORA GILARDINO

Bienvenidos a la clase de ESPAÑOL!

Welcome to Spanish class!

My name is Mrs. Gilardino or as the students call me, SEÑORA G  or SEÑORA "HEY". In Spanish, the G is a "hey" sound. I have been at DVE since 2015 and very much enjoy working in this community of learners and educators. I am a native of Colorado Springs. I have been married since 1996 and had a beautiful daughter in 2005. The rest of our family is large and Italian, so a bit boisterous as well. Additionally, I love my cat, hiking and enjoy a good coffee with a friend or two.

This year in Spanish I am privileged to teach 1st-5th grade. I am able to see each class one day a week for an hour. For 1st & 2nd grade, we will be together for 12 weeks. I hope this will be good exposure and excite students for further learning in 3rd grade and beyond.

Here are just some of the things we will learn together this year.

1st & 2nd grades:

  • colors
  • numbers
  • letters
  • animals
  • days of the week
  • basic greetings
  • basic commands

3rd grade:

  • colors
  • numbers
  • letters
  • animals
  • days of the week
  • basic greetings
  • basic commands
  • body parts
  • months of the year
  • food
  • clothing
  • family members
  • traditions for Hispanic nations
  • Spanish-speaking countries (names, maps, flags)

4th grade:

4th grade will work on all topics above, as well as using Spanish books/texts to glean their own information on these topics. In 4th grade, a pretest is given during the first month of school to assess student knowledge in Spanish. At the end of the year, a similar assessment will be given to show the year's growth.

5th grade:

5th grade will also work on everything mentioned in 1st-4th grades. Beyond this, in April, 5th grade will write a simple children's book and hopefully have the opportunity to present that book to a kindergarten class.

Please email me if you have any questions or concern about Spanish this year.
