 A Little About Me

Welcome to 5th grade at Douglass Valley Elementary!  My name is Amanda Bagwell, and I have the incredible privilege of teaching your students this school year.  I am a Northwest native, born and raised in rural North Central Oregon just east of the stunning Cascade Mountains.  My hometown is nestled right in the middle of rolling wheat fields and cattle country.
I recently moved to beautiful Colorado after graduating from Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington.  I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with minors in Reading Instruction, Mathematics Education, and English Language Learners Instruction.  This is my first year as part of the Douglass Valley staff, and I am ecstatic to be a part of this fantastic community!
In my free time, I enjoy being active outdoors, participating in a variety of sports, reading, horseback riding, and spending time with my family.  Travel is also a passion of mine.  I had the incredible opportunity this past winter to venture to Thailand and teach 4th grade at an international school outside of Chiang Mai, where I became exceedingly enthralled with elephants!
It is an absolute joy to be teaching 5th grade this year.  I believe that each child has the ability to grow and achieve, and am excited to work each day through partnerships with teachers, parents, and students to build a positive, safe, and invigorating learning environment conducive to each student's success.  It is my goal to provide your children with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities to thrive both academically and personally as they prepare for their future.  Stop by our classroom, and check out what amazing things are happening in 5th grade!
